Our Ceylon Chai Tea is made with the finest organic Ceylon spices and herbs, creating a warm and inviting fragrance with a zesty, invigorating and aromatic finish. Master tea blenders handcrafted this signature – and award-winning – Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe tea blend. Traditionally, chai tea is brewed with milk and a natural sweetener to help bring forth the flavor of the spices in the brew; however, our spirited Chai Tea stands very well on its own.

Tea plants have grown wild in the Assam region since antiquity, and historically South Asians valued tea plants as an herbal medicine rather than as a recreational beverage. Some of the chai masala spice mixtures, or Karha, that are still in current use are derived from Ayurvedic medical texts:

Cinnamon: Obtained from the inner bark of several trees from the genus Cinnamomum. Helps to keep your arteries healthy, manage blood sugar levels, and lower cholesterol. Also possesses powerful antiviral properties.

Ginger: Used to treat various types stomach ailments; including motion sickness, upset stomach, morning sickness, colic, gas, diarrhea, nausea during cancer treatment, nausea and vomiting after a surgical procedure, as well as loss of appetite. Other uses include pain relief from arthritis or muscle soreness, menstrual pain, upper respiratory tract infections, cough, and bronchitis. Sometimes, ginger is used for chest pain, lower back pain, and stomach pain.

Clove: The aromatic dried flower buds of trees in the Myrtaceae Syzygium aromaticum family. Cloves are native to the Maluku islands in Indonesia and used as a spice in cuisines all over the world. Cloves are used in herbalism and dentistry where the essential oil is used as an anodyne (painkiller) for dental emergencies. Cloves are used as a carminative to increase hydrochloric acid in the stomach and to improve peristalsis. Cloves are also said to be a natural anthelmintic. The essential oil is used in aromatherapy when stimulation and warming are needed, especially for digestive problems. Topical application over the stomach or abdomen are said to warm the digestive tract. Clove oil, applied to a cavity in a decayed tooth, also relieves toothache.

Cardamom: Cardamom is a perennial plant native to southern India. According to Ayurvedic texts, cardamom has been used as a digestive aid for about 5,000 years. Cardamom has been used to neutralize stomach acid, in addition to relieving gas. It is used to improve circulation and relieve respiratory ailments.

Black Pepper: Stimulating and revitalizing, black pepper is rich in antioxidants, fiber, potassium, iron and vitamins C and K, which keep the immune system healthy. Naturally improves digestion and promotes overall intestinal health. Additionally, the outer layer of the peppercorn stimulates the breakdown of fat cells, keeping you slim while giving you energy to burn.
